Hello blogland,

I’m standing in the gap for my wifey today so let’s get it!!

I, like many of us in blogland, are member of the uber social networking
site, Facebook. Facebook can be the jump off for many a crossed signal,
misinterpretation and subsequent off line drama.

I’d like to rap a taste about a couple of scenarios and get your thoughts.

Scenario #1

I have a facebook friend who is a college classmate. She’s married. She
posted on her status asking why a person (presumably female) would send her
a friend request (when she didn’t know this person) simply because said
person is a friend of her husband on FB. I commented that maybe the person
wanted to friend her husband AND her so they could all be friends. I
obviously was the only single person who answered because every other woman
who commented was like you need to IGNORE the request because the person
is: up to no good, being nosy in your business, you need to tell your
husband to de-friend said person etc.

I was reading the responses in bewilderment. Insecure much??

I then texted my line sister, who is also married and had commented on the
thread to mess with her and say is that what you married women think, that
some single women are always after your husbands???  Our text exchange soon
moved on to other topics but I’ll ask you good people of BIB, what do you
think about that whole exchange???

Scenario #2

We all know about Facebook pimping. This is when a pretty young thang (like
myself LOL) gets random friend requests or inbox notes from unsolicited
men.

But I had something happen last night and I was wondering had I been FB
pimped!!! LOL!!

Every night my college classmate posts a question to his status and calls
it FB After Dark. He got the idea from a friend of his who does the same
thing but lives in the ATL. Well he gets a long thread of comments. The
same group of folks normally comment.  And so folks have started to get
“familiar” with each other.

Well last night I got a friend request from a friend of my classmate. He
seemed cool from the responses I’d seen from him so I accepted. Well in
between answering on the thread, we started chatting on FB. And ended up
chatting for 2 hours and then he asked if he could call me to finish the
convo and I said he could. Turns out we have a lot in common. And he told
me he’d kind of vetted me with our mutual friend during our chat
conversation.

We are talking about going to see Transformers this weekend.

HAVE I JUST BEEN FACEBOOK PIMPED??? Is this different in your opinion from
meeting someone on-line via a profile??

Weigh in good readers!!!!

Hello blogland,

It has been a LONG time hasn’t it???????????????????????

I’ve missed you a lot, but with grinding to find a new job and actually
securing employment (FINALLY!) I’ve been a little busy. I have not been a
good blog wifey and for that I do apologize.

But I’m back, snitches and in a major way. Let’s go!!

Much like my blog wife, I have been on a bit of an on-line dating whirlwind
myself. I rejoined a couple of sites and have been conversing with a few
guys and met one that I really like. We totally click and have been out
several times. However (you knew there was a BUT to this one didn’t
you???), he is at the tail end of wrapping up a relationship with another
chick. We met for sushi last night to discuss it and I’ve decided that we
need to just be friends until he gets everything straight. He wasn’t really
pleased with my decision and truth be told, neither was I. But the
alternative, at least for me, would be the potential to get caught up and
get my feelings hurt. In 2009, we have to wear our big girl panties and
make the logical adult decisions.

I’ve made my decision so I’m not really looking for advice on that. But I
am curious. I’m no saint, and have been guilty of overlap with
relationships before.

Dear readers of blogland, have you been guilty of the same offense?? How
did it work out for you?? Can a relationship that begins like that ever
work??? What if you are a person that is in the process of divorcing?? Does
that count as overlap??

Give me what you got!!!!!!!!

Hello blogland,

I missed you guys much. However between looking for a job and battling a nasty toothache and subsequent extraction I’ve not been up for guest posting. I’m grateful to the hostess for not kicking me to the curb. (X0X0X0 Babsie!)

So let’s dish shall we!!!!

I may or may not have mentioned that I met a handsome goodlooking at a speed dating event in January and we have been building a friendship since then. We talk on the phone, meet at Starbux to chat, stuff like that. He is recently divorced (about 9 months) and as such has mentioned a need to move things along a tad more slowly. I really didn’t have a problem with that as I have been following my 2009 resolution to be single and mingle.

We’ve had several conversations about relationships and what people look for in their relationships, what goes wrong, etc. I mentioned that I had a list of things that I desired in husband. He mentioned he had a list too and that it was probably way shorter than mine. He was right. I have 25 items, he has five. LOL!!!

What I found most interesting that physical attractiveness is the last thing on his list. (To his credit, spirituality is number one)To him it’s the icing on the cake. So me, being the TIH that I am, asked if he found me attractive. After all, who wants to be someone’s pity date! Not the kid!!!!!

He said he found me very attractive. I left it at that. Now I have to mention that he is very attractive, played in the Canadian League and even now at damn near 40 years old is in pretty good shape. So I have to say I found it hard to believe that criteria was dead last, being how men are visual in the first place.

I mean physical attractiveness isn’t number one on my list but its up there in the top ten. I have to admit I don’t really know how I feel about it. One on hand, I like that he appears to not be so superficial but on the other hand I think any one would want to feel desired by the person they date/marry.

So my question to you lovely readers is: Truthfully, how important is physical attractiveness to you in your relationships??? Does what my handsome goodlooking friend says ring true with you? What do you think??

Hello blogland,

I needed to holla at ya’ll before I got my privileges revoked by the blog hostess. She goes hard with the grudges, you know. I don’t want to get on her bad side. *shaking in boots*

I’m kind of random today. Just making some general observations.

On the Oscars: Whoopi’s tittay tattoo. And the leopard print? WOW. Heath Ledger deserved it. Mickey Rourke: washed up pimp with greasy hair. Will ya’ll laugh at me because I really stopped watching after the black folks lost. Iron Chef was way more exciting!

On dating: I went a date with a man who’s north of 45 but south of 50. He looks 40. I had no clue how old he was until he mentioned when he graduated from college. *sigh* I’m gonna get worms from messing with these old ass men. LOL! He was really nice but he’s gonna have to go in the friend box. He has a 19 year old. He’s not trying to make no more babies!

I’m trying to get married!

On job hunting: I have an interview today arranged through a hook up. I’m nervous. Wish me luck!

On the Girl Scouts: Damn those cookie pushers! I hate them with their cheery smiling faces!!! I bought 4 boxes from the cutest lil thang on earth at church. I wanted to take her home with me along with the cookies! I left a box for my niece at my folks house, but still managed to demolish nearly half a box of peanut butter sandwiches (screw it, I’m old school, they are do-si-does!). Those demonic cookies are going to have to leave my residence!

On the weekend: Friday was my date, Saturday was community service and then Tex-Mex with the crew and Sunday was church. The weather was fabulous and so was my attitude. Welcome to the good life….:)

That’s all I got ya’ll! See you later!

Hello blogland,

Its been a minute but I haven’t forgotten about ya’ll so let’s rap a taste today.

Some of you know and some of you don’t know that TIH is a member of the second oldest BUT largest black sorority in the country. I am active with a local alumnae chapter here in the area and serve on the executive board.

Being a service organization is our primary thrust and this past sorority year ( Sept 2007 – June 2008 ) we partnered with a local school and committed to provide  them with test taking supplies. We had a commitment from a local office supply store to match my local chapter dollar for dollar. The local office supply store sent their matching donation to our national HQ instead of us and as a result of trying to get the check re-issued there was a delay in getting the check to the school.

We sent our chapter president in person to apologize and present the check in person to the principal of said school. For this current school year, that school has indicated that they didn’t want to work with my chapter again because of last year’s snafu.

My issue is that some of the other chapter members STILL want to try to make amends with this particular school because they don’t want the chapter’s name to
‘look bad’. I’m like WTF ever! We messed up, we apologized in person and they still took our money, mind you. And now we are supposed to kiss their asses?????

Huh what????

Ya’ll am I missing something here??? There are many schools who would be grateful for the support. This school doesn’t want to deal anymore. Fine. That’s their choice. But to beg them to participate with us?

Uh uh, nope, nerp, nada.

I said as much in the sorority meeting.

Am I out of line here??? Thoughts??

Today my father told me and my brother that he was going to ‘take away our privileges’ because we didn’t call the phone company to see why the business line wasn’t working. Please refer back to my previous post about helpless, lazy ass parents.

I could barely contain myself (and my laughter) as I asked him what privileges he planned to withhold from my 35 year old self. He just glared at me and said I needed to get on my ‘job’. I went looking for my mother to ask her what crack her husband was smoking (obviously the good pink strawberry flavored kind) and found this WANCH hiding out in the living room just about doubled over in laughter. Punk!

My brother went into the garage to get his laugh on as I had to deal with and try to soothe a crazy daddy. He reminded me of a cranky toddler who says something outrageous just to have something to say. It must have been time for his meds. LMAO!!!

Did I tell ya’ll how much I hate them???

I. Hate. Them.

The antics never cease with these people.

*le sigh*
***********

Last night’s Word On The Curb online talk show over at Creole In DC’s spot featured the stylish Erica B. We had a good chat about fabrics, style tips, advice for the beginning sewer and a very candid discussion about shopping for plus sized women. Of course, your girl TIH, was all over that portion of the program. Take a listen when you get a chance.

But what I really what to know is what was your biggest fashion mistake??? Did you think you were smoking hot at the time?? What brought you out of the crack induced haze and back to reality???

For me, all I’m going to say is that it involved some blue velvet and knickers. The rest I have to take to my grave!!!!!!!!

This isn’t really a post. Its more of a rant. I think. Somewhat. Kinda sorta.

TIH speaks to Boy A on Saturday about getting together on Sunday after church. Boy A says that sounds good to him and says he will call TIH after church.

Fast forward to Sunday. Boy A does indeed call TIH after church, says he’s gonna stop by moms house to eat and will call me back.  TIH says OK as she is headed to parentals home to eat BBQ by Daddy. Yummo!

Boy A calls an hour later to tell me to call him on my way home so he can meet me at my house by 3ish or so. TIH does so on the way home.

TIH receives call from Boy B. Boy B invites TIH to a little get together later on. TIH stalls because Boy A is coming by to visit.

TIH gets home, gets comfy and actually ends up falling asleep. She wakes up at 5:30PM. No call from Boy A. So TIH calls, gets VM, leaves message.  Hours go by, no peep from Boy A and of course, the window of opportunity with Boy B has passed.

In the words of the Broke Socialite: *le sigh* (TBS, 2008).

Of course, you know it’s Monday afternoon and as of this posting that I’m about to send to Babsie, I’ve not heard from Boy A.

The time for being pissed to the highest point of pisstivity was yesterday. Today, I’m just kind of indifferent.  Kinda. I think.

I don’t even have the energy to call and see if he’s dead in a ditch somewhere. I got bigger fish to fry, I need a damn job!

Why has dating regressed to the point where your time is not even respected anymore? What happened to calling if you had to cancel? This wasn’t typical behavior for Boy A at all.  Where did basic home training go?

Talk amongst yourselves.

While waiting on a head hunter to call about a phone screen, I got a call on my cell phone from my daddy. (Why he won’t call me at home, I don’t know)

Seems that he needs to change his password to access his online banking accounts. My instructions are to go the parentals home and make the necessary updates so that he can ‘check his bank’. *sigh* I am was instructed to not mess up his favorites (that I set up mind you) and to write the new password on the password list that he keeps in his files. *sigh*

Yet, this is the same man who brags about being able to check email. And how he’s not scared of the internet!!! LOL!!!

And don’t get me started on my mother. This is the same woman who just left the workplace last year and now asks me to check her email and print it out! WTF??

I think the parents are just a lil lazy, personally.

I guess this how its gonna be while I’m out of work. Errand girl, PC technician, bookkeeper. Gotta love the parents!!!!

Do you guys have ‘jobs’ assigned to you by your folks? Are you finding that your parents are becoming more dependent on you as they get older?

Ladies and Gents- today I would like to introduce a new feature here at Babs in Blogland-  guest writing from our favorite commenter with no blog of her own, Tiffany in Houston.

Please note, I will neither be editing nor censoring TIH’s posts so be prepared to clutch your pearls from time to time.  Oh, and TIH is the ONLY person I would let have any space on my site, so don’t ask.

Now, without any further ado, I present to you Tiffany Speaks.

I was talking with my sorority sister this morning and she was asking me about what transpired with the lay off and such. After I told her how it went down, I did what I always do and asked how her new daughter was doing. Her kid is 6 months old and  MAD adorable.

So she begins to tell me what’s been going on with the mini-me and proceeds to get graphic…like talking about the color of her poo and shit like that.

Yeah, no.

This went on for about 10 minutes!!! Needless to say I’m dying a little bit on the inside on the other end of the line. Fortunately she had to go because she was pulling up at work. Saved by the bell!!!!!

As a single person, I am always super excited for my friends who have kids and always ask about them. But to you parents out there, why don’t ya’ll know how to CUT. IT. OFF.????? LOL!!!!

Seriously though, I don’t want to hear about Lil Shaquanique’s multi-colored puke. Overshare much?????

Singles and parents, what are your thoughts????
