My Other Favorite Couple September 2, 2009

I’ll admit, when I first saw previews for Giuliana and Bill I decided immediately that I was not interested in watching. I didn’t know who Giuliana was, and I still harbored some resentment towards Bill for winning the Apprentice over Kwame.
Then, one afternoon, I came across the first episode and ended up watching it. I liked it immediately!
That Giuliana is funny. She is pretty, albeit too thin for my tastes, and goofy. I really like their interaction with each other. They constantly rib each other, yet show affection. They aren’t sappy like Tori and Dean, yet I still feel the love between them. They seem like a regular, happy couple.
I’m still not moved to watch whatever show she hosts, and I still think Kwame should have won, but I am a fan of Guliana and Bill.
Do you watch? Do you think you and your mate would make for a good reality television show? What is so interesting about your interactions?
Dinner and a Movie September 2, 2009

Last night I cooked dinner for Good Guy because he had a bad day and, well, I’m that kinda girl. I wanted to make something inexpensive simple, so I decided to go with the popular baked spaghetti recipe. When I told him what we were having he immediately reminded me that he doesn’t like spaghetti.
Crap.
Oh well. The kitchen is not a democracy and that’s what we were having so I served it up with a smile. Unfortunately, I did something wrong (although I’ve made it 10 times) and it came out a little dry. Fortunately, my guy ate it like nothing was wrong with it. He even asked for seconds!
After dinner we watched a movie.

This movie was actually shot in Collegetown. I had seen it before and even remember when it was being shot. You have to suspend all reality in order to get through the movie, but it is fairly entertaining.
There are some familiar faces in the film including Mek.hi Phi.fer and Ma.linda Williams. I forgot how fine Mek.hi used to be.
My question for you today* is, when did Mek.hi turn ugmo? Because he damn sure doesn’t look like he used to!
*Clearly it’s a slow day in blogland. Send topics!
A Night at the Movies August 28, 2009

Part of my week long birthday extravaganza included heading to the Fox Theater for the Summer Movie Series. Last night they were showing “The Proposal,” and although I had seen it I was more than happy to see it again. From the windows to the wall!
Originally there were supposed to be about 10 of us meeting for dinner and drinks beforehand and then walking to the theater, but every bailed but my MiMi. So I had some quality time with the Baroness and I was more than okay with that. She’s so damn funny!
We started out at Engine 11 on North Avenue where they have $2 glasses on wine on Thursdays. Yes sir, $2 glasses of wine. If, by chance, a Thursday rolls around and you can’t find me, you might want to look for me there. I can get slap happy for eight damn dollars. And my chardonnay was quite tasty!
After dinner we walked over to the Fox. I’ve been many times, but never for such an informal evening. We chose to sit high in the balcony so we could be close to the “stars”. I think it was optimal seating for viewing the movie.
The theater was packed. It’s great to see people get out of the house on a rainy Thursday night to do something fun, and at $8 dollars per ticket it is totally affordable.
Unfortunately, this is the last weekend for the Summer Movie Series, so if you didn’t get it in this year you’ll have to wait until next summer. I will definitely be adding this to my Summer 2010 agenda.
Thanks, MiMi for a great evening!

Today I came home to find a love note from fe.dex. I contemplated waiting a day or two to pick it up, but I love presents and was eager to see what was in store for me. We are within the seven day window to my birthday, so I am going to go ahead and call this my first birthday present of the year! My good friends at Nintendo think I could stand to lose a few pounds are so generous!

Personal Trainer Walking is sure to be a hit in the O’Leary household. I have truly been wanting to get a pedometer, and this seems like is going to be a whole level above just some raggedy pedometer.
According to the packaging, I can wear the unit or even carry it in my purse. Then I can upload my steps to my DS and track my activity levels. I am all over this!
Thank you so much, Nintendo! I can’t wait to get started with this in the morning. I’ll be sure to check back and let you know how much I like it.
Faithful readers, does this sound like something you would enjoy? Do you like to walk to get your daily exercise?
Must Not Ever See TV August 17, 2009

Saturday night at the after party, one of New Guy’s younger cousins turned the television to Blech Entertainment Television. I immediately recognized the tomcoonery that is Tin.y and To.ya.

It’s funny because just last week a sometime-y blogger friend sent me a text asking how in the hell I manage to decipher the words spoken by the ATLiens after watching an episode herself. I didn’t understand why she was so taken aback until I watched about two minutes of this show.
I was appalled!
I truly had to concentrate on what they were saying. It’s absolutely awful! The entire show is awful! I don’t even understand the purpose. Who is watching this crap?
I actually felt kind of sad for Ti.ny. She is so scary looking and oh so lacking in the brains department. And her voice!
Toya isn’t so bad, although the episode wasn’t really focused on her. I am sure she is tragic in her own right. After all, she bumped uglies with this man:

Just, eeeeewwwwwww!
Have you ever watched this show? Will you admit to it publicly?

It seems I’ve offended one of my favorite guys. But I still think she looks like a man.
The chin, the jawline, the nose with just a hiiiiiinnnntttt of an adams apple.
What do you think? Tranny or no?

A Love Like That August 11, 2009

As a woman who desires marriage and family, I come across couples from time to time that make me envious of their relationship. Don’t get me wrong, there are just as many, if not more, that make me thankful for my singleness, but there are also those that I covet.
There is one particular relationship that I envy the most. Whenever I see this couple, it is clear that they are in love. They say nice things to each other, they are super affectionate, they are supportive of each other’s endeavors, and they buy each other the most thoughtful gifts.
They are parents to two adorable children. They value family and make sure that their children receive lots of love and attention.
Yeah, this couple exemplifies what I desire in a relationship. If I get half of what they have, then maybe I’ll be happy.
Who is this wonderful couple you may be wondering? (more…)

Skin August 3, 2009

Sunday I had the opportunity to attend a screening of “Skin” at the Woodruff Arts Center. The screening was a part of the National Black Arts Festival, and when I was offered tickets I was thrilled. First the play that I saw with MiMi and now this. I love free stuff!
I truly enjoyed the film. “Skin” is about apartheid in South Africa. A colored girl (Sophie Okonedo) is born to white parents. We see the fight to have her classified as white, her rejection by white people and then her fight to be classified as Black. The film is based on a true story, which makes it all the more heart wrenching.
The NBAF is a great opportunity to see indie films, and this is certainly one that should get a broader distribution. It was terrific and I hope you all get the chance to see it.

Friday night I, along with select members of the Crew, headed to the cinema to check out that new movie with the dumb girl who sleeps with the ghost of her dead lover. While I can’t stand to watch her on the small screen, I can tolerate her on the big screen and even own one of her movies on DVD.
The movie was quite hysterical. It was crude, rude and pearl clutchingly vulgar. On more than one occasion I found myself staring open mouthed at Deuce or CaliSlim at some of th zingers that were delivered. I also found myself staring open mouthed at Rehab, although not because of the many references to co.ck or bl.owjo.bs.

This chick came up into the theater on a Friday night with a two course meal! First she broke out the spring rolls. Then she got a fork so she could eat her pad Thai. I was so thankful to be sitting two seats away from her so no one would know I was with her I didn’t have to endure the smell of curry and chicken for two hours.
Don’t her me wrong, I’ve snuck in my fair share of food into the theater. Just never on a busy Friday night where I was sitting near anyone. I’ve taken sub sandwiches, seafood salad, honey bbq wings from Wendy’s and even chocolate cake!
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever snuck into a theater?
