Babs in Blogland

My first South Beach story actually happened long before the plane ever touched down in South Florida.

I boarded the plane, armed with my IPod, a book and my DS Lite.  As always, I planned on gazing out the window while entertaining myself and ignoring whatever seatmate I might have. 

Enter Britney.

I don’t actually know if her name was Britney, but for the purposes of this story it is quite fitting.  Britney was dressed like Casual Barbie.  A hot pink tee and Seven jeans fit tightly over her size 4 frame.  She had long nails, long bleached blonde hair and, dare I say, a rather long face.  She boarded the plane wearing a giant pair of sunglasses.  I kept waiting for her to take them off, but she kept them on the entire flight.  She also kept pulling out an oversized compact mirror and primping.

After the flight had taken off, but before we had permission to use approved electronic devices, Britney whipped out her IPhone to listen to some music.  She plugged in her earphones, put her head back on the seat and hit play.

Suddenly, the sounds of Lil John were blaring from her phone.  It seems she hadn’t pushed the earphones in all the way and the music was coming from the speakerphone.  I look over at her and she had her head back on the seat lightly bobbing her head.  She was really into whatever the hell he was screaming about.  I tapped her on the shoulder.

Babs:  I can hear your music.
Britney: Oh, I’m sorry.  My ear holes are small and these things won’t fit all the way in.
Babs: No, I don’t think you understand.  The music is on speakerphone.  I don’t think you have the earphones plugged in.

I tell you, blogland, I couldn’t make this stuff up!  All I could do was shake my head and pull out my own IPod.  Ironically, while Britney was jamming to Lil John, I was rockin out to the B-52’s.
