DIY: Abort Mission August 18, 2008

This weekend I vowed to keep my happy azz planted firmly on the couch.  I wanted nothing more than to have a refrigerator full of food and to stay snuggled up with my main man tivo and my side piece netflix.  I knew I had two major tasks to get accomplished- car fixed and toilets fixed.  While I was able to get my car fixed on Saturday morning, the toilet is still in disrepair.

I need a man!

There I said it.  No shame in my game.  I gave it a go and I failed.  Now it’s time to get someone over here to help me.

Today I tried to replace the fill valve in my half bathroom.

At first I pulled out the instructions which largely resembled the declaration of independence.

I looked at the pictures and then the written instructions.  I looked at the pictures some more and finally figured out what my first step should be.  I put on my rubber gloves (because my hands are like delicate flowers) and commenced to unscrewing the big piece from the toilet.  I got that done pretty much no problem.  That’s where this story ends.

I cannot get the next piece to budge.  Seriously.  I pulled out all my tools (and I have a lot) and none of them would do the trick.  *sigh*

I have houseguests coming Thursday and at present my toilet looks like this:

Crap.

It does suck doesn’t it! Especially when it’s a seemingly good fix. My closet rod crashed this weekend. Clothes are everywhere. The closest thing I’ve got to a man is handy in other ways!

Well..it’s better than HAVING a man in the house and finding an embarrassed guest standing outside the door of the bathroom because the man didn’t fix the toilet…just turned of the water…and didn’t TELL ANYBODY ABOUT IT!

I ain’t saying nutting else. For making me remember this…me and you got eBeef again.

lol! Perpetual ebeef.

Are these the kind of accomodations we should expect at Hotel Babs? Unacceptable!!! Just kidding sweetie. If you can’t get this fixed by Thursday, me and the boys will be happy to give it a look see. My oldest nephew loves complicated instructions with pictures!

Good, I shall put those buckeyes to work!

@Creole: Po’ Robinator. It’s hard out there for a handyman! LOL!!

I feel you Babsie. My master bathroom toilet works but it keeps running and I haven’t gotten past jiggling the handle. *sigh* We need menz.

Oh, I know how to fix that!

what’s with toilets? I just had to change the arm thingy and waster stopper thingy (technical terms)…i couldn’t get the washer off to remove the arm thing. The StepDad came over yesterday and loosened it for me…I had an ahh ha moment yesterday like “Ohhhh! That’s what men are for?” lol…

Hey I had an I need a man moment with of all things a light bulb in my car!!! I was feeling very dumb (for lack of a nicer word) when I had to call my dad (who lives in another state) to walk me through changing this tail light..I had screwed up the R and L sides by the time I thought to call him..what started with 2 errors was now 7..lol at the end of the conversation, “we” got me back to the original 2 error messages about the light on the dashboard and had both agreed that I need to make a trip to Auto.Zone so a MAN there could fix it..I felt better knowing it was a faulty bulb and not (all) me!

Hmmm, try getting a cedar chest out the car to the bedroom. I ended up turning it end over end until I got it on a rug and then pulled it across the kitchen into the bedroom.

And we are not even going to talk about the lawnmower in the box in the back seat of my car as I type this comment. **sigh**

Man, I hate toilet repairs. My guest bathroom has the same running water, handle jiggling issue that TIH has. I’m going to tackle that this week – it’s a much easier to fix.
