The twenty-something bloggers and I met at this new spot in the Castleberry Hill district.  It’s called 255 Tapas or Tapas 255.  Whatever it is called, they need to quit fronting and take the word “tapas” out of the title.  I hate when people do this.  They see something is hot, and try to incorporate it into their name even though it couldn’t be more different.  Kind of like Vinings.  Do you know how many subdivisions have the name Vinings in it, but are very clearly in Mableton.  Dude, if you live off of Bankhead, you ain’t in Vinings!

But I digress.

MiMi and I had both heard good things about 255 Tapas so we penciled it on our calendars weeks in advance.  For the purposes of this post, I am going to write solely about my dining experience as my companions and their twenty-something tastebuds quite enjoyed it.

The food wasn’t bad per se, it just wasn’t tapas.  Mini burgers, calamari, fries, deep fried anything you can think of.  That is not tapas, it’s bar food.  Had I been drinking I would have been very happy to be eating fish nuggets and sweet potato fries, but since I had broken my fat smash for the day I was quite disappointed.  My favorite dish were the mini turkey burgers.  At first I savored every bite so happy to have found such a yummy turkey burger.  Then I realized it was served on a Hawaiian roll and I chucked the meat and let the sweet roll melt it my mouth.  $8 for some Hawaiian rolls?  You better get yourself a 4-pack at publix and call it a day.

We were at the restaurant at about 6pm on a Thursday, so I can’t really tell you how this place is at night.  It looks nice though and I am sure it gets packed.  Although a little rough around the edges and wearing earrings that could fit around the Girl’s waist, the server was nice enough.  I think they, too, would look better after dark.

Would I go back to 255?  Sure, if I were meeting people for drinks and they picked the place.  But I would not recommend it as a dinner spot to anyone looking for a good meal.

Thanks for the review. I had been meaning to check this place out too. I’ve been to the M Bar, Slice (of course) and the new jazz spot at 281. This was next. I had been hearing “good things” too but no one I knew had actually been! Is it small like all the other places on the street?

You know Babs, even though I thought the food was good…it was definitely not the “tapas” that we are used to. I agree that they should drop “tapas” off their name.

And I highly doubt that Shaqkwanna and the rest of the wait staff would “look better after dark” LOL

LOLOL- she did kinda look like her daddy’s name was Shaq and her momma was Kwanna!
