Is your heart healthy enough? January 2, 2008

This morning as I was getting dressed to come into the plantation, I zoned out planning my day. As I was putting on my shoes I realized a commercial for a common male sexual enhancement drug was playing. I wasn’t really paying attention, but then I heard something that was so profound.
Is your heart healthy enough for sex?
Wow. I know the commercial meant literal heart health, as in septuagenarians going into cardiac arrest because they popped that little blue pill. But I took its meaning quite differently.
Is your heart healthy enough for sex?
So many times we, and I am speaking primarily to the women, begin a sexual relationship and we aren’t prepared for the heartache or the disappointment that comes with casual sex. We aren’t prepared for the rejection. We aren’t prepared to learn that we aren’t the only one. We aren’t prepared that it might not lead to a relationship. And if it does lead to a relationship, we aren’t prepared that it might end.
I think it is really important for women to ask themselves this question before jumping into bed with a man. We need to ask ourselves if we are prepared to suffer the consequences of sex. Consequences that don’t lead to the free clinic. Consequences like a broken heart.
Is your heart healthy enough for sex?

Really hate to say this, but I think if you have to ask, you aren’t.
love this blog
reminds me of something carrie bradshaw would right on SATC
lh- of course I disagree with you
amyg- thanks
This very post is the foundation of a few changes I have made in my life. Thank you for validating that I am on the right path.
Hmmmm.. I hate to answer that question. Especially the part about finding out you are not the only one..
Great post. Sex is so easy (for the body), yet so complicated (for the heart).
