Those dates be calling me, man!

Things with Good Guy are going well as you may have guessed from what I don’t write here in blogland.  We have gotten quite comfortable very quickly.  We see each other several times a week.  Whether it’s eating dinner in, going to Bible study or doing “family” activities.  It’s all very nice and what I have long desired in a relationship.

As much as I am enjoying being with Good Guy and enjoying the comfort of “having a man,” part of me still misses being in the game.  I miss getting all dolled up with extra care to hair and makeup.  I miss meeting a guy at a restaurant because I haven’t disclosed my address.  I miss candlelight, wine and white tablecloth service.  I miss the friendly goodbye hug at valet as I drive off to my own home where I can kick off my shoes, crash on the couch and do whatever I want.

Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t trade my Good Guy for the world.  The things we do together are fulfilling a need that I have had for a very long time.  I am more fulfilled with him after just five weeks than I ever was with Texas Holdem in five months.  My craving for honesty, consistency and family are being met and that is something I am very happy to have.

Although Good Guy is great and I am enjoying getting into the comfort zone, but there is something about going out with a new guy every week that is somewhat addictive.   I think that’s part of the problem for men and women in Atlanta.  Dating can be so much fun, there isn’t much incentive to settle down and focus on just one person.  Let’s face it, before I met Good Guy I was averaging about one date a week, so to have that stop so abruptly is leaving me feeling somewhat unsatisfied.

I had no intention of discussing this with Good Guy because I didn’t want him to think I was ungrateful for our time together.  He gives me copious amounts of quality time and I appreciate that considering how busy he is.  Still, it came up in conversation and he let me know that he didn’t want me to be left feeling unfulfilled in that area.  He and I agreed to start having regular “date nights.”  I love a man that listens to my needs and takes action!

To those of you who are married or in serious relationships, do you ever find yourselves missing the single life?  Do you miss going on first dates and all that is associated with dating?  Do you take the time to schedule date nights with your mate?

It’s one of my favorite girl’s birthday!  I don’t know if she’ll actually read this since she and her soon-to-be husband are celebrating her birthday on a tropical isle.

Let’s wish her a happy day just in case she looks up from the sand and mojitos.

XOXOXO

I finally took the time to update my blogroll.  If you haven’t checked it out in a while, please browse my regular reads.  There are a couple of new additions.

If you used to be on the blogroll and were removed, it’s because your updates were too infrequent.  I can’t promote you if you aren’t committed.

3 Day Weekend September 4, 2009

Ahhhh, Labor Day weekend.  It’s what we wait for all summer.  Three days to go on a fun vacation or laze around the house catching up on Bravo TVa good book.  While I won’t be getting away to tropical destinations like some of my besties, I will be spending quality time with Roxie in Atlanta.  Where it’s betta?  Eh, not so much.

What I won’t be doing is going anywhere inside the Perimeter for the next three days.  Why you may be wondering?  Labor Day weekend is when every Black, gay male descends upon the chocolate city.  Now I love my alternative lifestyle homies as much as the next carefree, open-minded gal, but there is something very disconcerting about dudes walking around looking like Lil Wayne with wife beaters, big ass chains and baggy jeans with their hands in the back pockets of their homeboys.

Yeah, I’m not making that up.  I’ve seen it with my own two eyes.  It was disturbing.  I’ll never forget the year I went to brunch with a couple of friends during Labor Day weekend.  The parking lot was FULL of luxury cars with Greek license plate borders.  The tags were from out of state- DC, New York, Florida, Virginia, everywhere.  We walked into the restaurant and it was a sea of handsome black men.  And.no.women.  Not one.  It was all dudes.  All dudes who clearly were living a different lifestyle in what ever state they came from.  Half of them had on wedding rings!

Forgive me, I’ve gotten off track.  This post was not at all supposed to be about Gay Black Pride Weekend.

So while I would love to head to Piedmont Park for an afternoon of frolicking on the lawn, there is no way on earth I am headed there.  I’m a Suburban girl this weekend, yo!  I think I’ll catch a couple of movies, clean the grout and re-caulk my tub and maybe work on this here site.

What are your plans for the holiday weekend?

No Benefit September 4, 2009

Recently I picked up my favorite mascara- Benefit Bad Gal Lash.  I was a little surprised when I paid for it and noted that the price had gone up by one dollar.  Oh well, Benefit gotsta get paid too I guess.

When I got home I pulled out the sleek little tube and immediately noticed something was wrong.  The tube was way slimmer than it was supposed to be!  I grabbed the old tube and compared it to the new tube.  I couldn’t find anything that listed the ounces or weight of the product, but my eyes certainly did not deceive me.

I am a little more than annoyed with Benefit for upping the price and lowering the quantity of my favorite mascara.  But let’s be real, it’s JUST mascara.  I have no problem switching brands.  So when I run out of mascara in the next 3 or 4 months (or sooner now that those bastards are skimping on the product) I will be looking for a new high quality mascara.

Have you noticed a change in any of your favorite products (beauty, food or otherwise) in terms of price or quantity?  Has it caused you to switch brands?

And more importantly, can you recommend a new mascara?

Mochi Love September 3, 2009

Favorite blogger Jenn is always talking about mochi.  Mochi this and mochi that.  And as someone obsessed with food, I knew that somehow I would have to taste this magical stuff.  I admit that up to this point, I haven’t really tried to find it.  I did a google search and came up with nothing and I asked a girl at my favorite yakitori restaurant and she directed me to an Asian market but I never went.

Tonight I stopped at Trader Joe’s to pick up some randomness and what do you think I saw in the ice cream section?  Mochi ice cream!

Too lazy to pull out a plate

Too lazy to pull out a plate

I scooped it up (pun) as quickly as I could and rushed home to try it.  At first it looked kinda weird.  Like cold dough wrapped around a little ball of ice cream.  I was apprehensive to taste it but when I did…YUM!

I can’t even describe how tasty it is.  This is seriously my new favorite treat.  I thank the good Lord above that the distance between me and the nearest Trader Joes will stop me from keeping these bad boys stocked in the freezer.

Have you tried mochi ice cream?

Have you ever been out and run into an ex and peeped their new mate and think they have DOWNGRADED?

Have you ever seen a picture of your current love’s ex and think they’ve UPGRADED?

I’ve experienced both of these situations and it always surprises me.  I’ve even been stunned before, and it had me looking in the mirror checking my (face) value.  Maybe I’m not nearly as cute as I thought I was.  Maybe my Ex or current guy is sticking to his type and I fall right in line with girlfriends past and present.  Could I possibly see something different when I look in the mirror?

fiona

I’d like to think that I typically date men that fall into the same attractiveness range.  They are never too fine and they are never butt ugly.  I like handsome men, but I guess that handsome is relative.  After all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Tell me blogland, have you ever seen an Ex’s mate or a Mate’s ex and thought WTF?  Did it make you think less of them?  Did you think less of yourself?

Be honest.
